Fullerton, Calif. - Senior Erin Saddler led all players with 15 kills and added 7 digs as Cal State Fullerton impoved to a school record 22-5 on the year, defeating visiting San Diego State, 25-23, 25-17, 25-20, Tuesday night in non-conference volleyball action.
The Titans have won each of their last five matches and have been victorious in 18 of their last 20. They are also a near-perfect 14-1 in Titan Gym with2 more home matches remaining.
San Diego State fell to 13-14 with the loss.
Saddler was one of three Titans in double-figures in kills, joining Torrie Brown (12 kills) and Kayla Neto (11 kills) on the offensive attack. The Titans hit .248 as a squad.
San Diego State was held to just a .143 percentage and no one on the team reached double figures in kills. Andrea Hannasch was the team leader with nine.
Blocking was the only department the Aztecs reigned supreme, out-blocking the Titans 10.5 to 8.0. SDSU's Paije Pearson led all players with six blocks (all assists) while Brown led the Titans with five (4 solos).
The Titans led for a majority of the match, with just one lead change in the first two sets. In set No. 3, the Titans fell behind 0-1 and then took the lead until the Aztecs caught them and took the lead at 12-11. After that, the Titans rattled off five straight points with Gabrielle Dewberry serving, and they never looked back. Dewberry had a career-high 4 service aces on the night.
Cami Croteau continued her chase for the Big West Conference record for career digs. She scooped a match-high 17 attack attempts. She now trails former Cal Poly Kristin Jackson by 56 digs with four regular season matches to catch her.
Kristi Jackels led San Diego State with 14 digs in the loss.
Fullerton will return to Big West Conference action Friday night against UC Irvine at home. The Titans have 4 regular-season matches (all league matches) to play, and hold a 1-game, first-place lead over Long Beach State. If the Titans can win out, they will win their first-ever conference title, and advance to the NCAA postseason for the very first time as well.
