Trudeau Leads Titans to Sweep of the Tigers

Fullerton, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton volleyball team insured its first winning season since 1996 with a 30-20, 30-14, 30-18 sweep of Pacific Saturday night in a Big West Conference match at Titan Gym.

Breanna Trudeau blasted 14 kills and hit .306 to lead all players, helping the Titans improve to 15-8 overall and 4-5 in conference play. This season marks just the third time in the programs existence the Titans will have had better than a .500 winning percentage.

The Tigers continue to struggle, dropping to 6-16, 3-7.

No other Titans recorded 10-or-more kills on Saturday, but Alex Wolnisty, Brittany Moore and Amanda Pfielschiefter each added to the assault with five kills apiece. The Titan out-hit the Tigers on the match .257 to -.037.

Wolnisty and Moore proved to be a valuable asset at the net, collecting 17blocks between the two of them. Moore led the way with nine, including three solos to lead all players. The freshman Wolnisty nearly matched Moore with eight blocks and two solos.

Pacific was unable to collect even one block as the Titans as a team shut them out at the net, 15-0.

Both teams had thee players in double-digits in digs, with Vanessa Vella (15) leading for the Titans, and Julie Magud (15) for the Tigers.

With the victory the Titans take the season series from the Tigers, winnng both at home and on the road. Through the first half of the 2004 season, the Titans had an 0-40 record against the Tigers. Since the second half of 2004, Fullerton is 4-2 against the Stockton-based team, and 3-0 at Titan Gym.

Fullerton will take on northern foes Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara next weekend (Nov. 3-4) in the final two home games of 2006. Both games start at seven with Senior Night festivities scheduled prior to Saturday night's match against the Gauchos.
