Fullerton, Calif. - Brittany Moore blasted a season-high 27 kills to lead Cal State Fullerton to a 3-1 Big West Conference volleyball victory over UC Santa Barbara Friday night at the Thunderdome.
The Titans took care of the Gauchos by scores of 25-23, 25-13, 15-25, 25-14 and improve to 12-11 on the year and 5-3 in Big West play. The Gauchos fall to 8-11, 4-4. It was just the third all-time win for Fullerton over Santa Barbara in the in their 57-match history, and third in as many years.
Moore connected for nine of her match-leading 27 kills in the fourth and final set and hit .510 on the match, committing just one error in 51 swings. Moore's offense was flanked by Jennifer Edmond and Erin Saddler who both contributed 12 kills.
Rebecca Saraceno (14 kills) and Lauern McLaughlin (12 kills) paced the Gaucho offense that hit a combined .187 on the night. Saraceno also added 13 digs, and a pair of blocks and service aces in the loss.
Both teams blocked to a stalemate, with each team picking up 8.0 blocks. UCSB's Kasey Kipp led all players with six block assists on the night, with Charlene DeHoog adding five. Sydney McDowell (5 block assists, 1 solo) and Moore (4 block assists, 1 solo) led for Fullerton.
Four Titans tallied 12-or-more digs on the evening with libero Cami Croteau leading all players with 20. Three Gauchos had double figures in digs and were led by Leigh Stevenson's 18-dig effort.
Titan setter Andrea Ragan posted a career- and Titan season-high 54 assists in the victory.
The Titans will take on Cal Poly Saturday night at Mott Gym. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
