Women's Volleyball Drops Road Contest at UC Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton women's volleyball lost in four sets (15-25, 22-25, 29-27, 12-25) against UC Irvine in the Bren Events Center on Friday night.  The Titans fall to 10-14 overall and 7-10 in Big West Conference play.

The Anteaters (16-11, 9-8 BWC) outhit the Titans for the night by hitting .337 for the game to the TItans .181 hitting percentage.  Makena Ala'ilima-Daley (15 kills) and Haley Carmo (11 kills) led the attack for the Titans. Freshman Marisse Turner had a solid 8 kills and a block in her second career game for the Titans. Elizabeth Schuster had 47 assists and Julia Crawford led the team with 19 digs for the game. Onye Ofoegbu led the Anteaters with 23 kills for the night.

In the first set, the Anteaters hit at a .462 mark for the set en route to the 25-15 set victory.

In the second set, it was neck-and-neck in the beginning of the set before Irvine pulled away at 13-12.  The Titans were able to keep it close and within three points a couple times during the set but couldn't quite get over the hump to tie the Anteaters again.  UCI won the second set 25-22.  

Cal State Fullerton staved off the UCI sweep in the third set.  It was close for most of the set and the Titans finally separated away from the UCI at the 20-20 mark.  The Titans got a set point at 24-22 but UCI came back and tied it at 24-24.  Neither side was willing to give up and finally the Titans prevailed at 29-27 in the third set after five set points from back-to-back kills from Turner and Crawford.

In the fourth set, the Anteaters came out firing to open up a 4-point lead to begin the set.  They stretched the lead to eleven points at 19-8 and took the fourth and final set at 25-12.

The Titans return home to Titan Gym tomorrow night against UC San Diego for their final home game of the season. Interim Head Coach Nicole Polster and the athletic department will honor its seniors prior to the match. First serve is set for 5:00 PM.
