Titans Lose in Straight Sets to Long Beach

FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton women's volleyball team fell in straight sets (20-25, 20-25, 14-25) against Long Beach State on Thursday night at Titan Gym. The Titans fall to 9-11 overall and 6-7 in Big West Conference play.

The Titans had a poor hitting night overall after hitting at a .140 clip for the game.  Meanwhile Long Beach State hit .339 for the game and hit above .300 for each set. Haley Carmo led the Titans with 8 kills and Elizabeth Schuster had 20 assists and eight digs. Katie Kennedy and Kashuana Williams led Long Beach State with 16 kills each.

In the first set, the Beach jumped to an early 8-2 lead. Fullerton slowly dug out of the hole they were in and got within three points a couple times but Long Beach was able to stop the Titans rally each time. At 21-15, the Titans got four straight points and were able to get within two points at 22-20 but The Beach finished off the set with three consecutive points. 

The second set started off with the Titans holding an early 11-4 lead. But Long Beach State was able to go on mini rallies and eventually tie the set at 14-14. Both sides were knotted up three different times but finally after being tied at 19-19, Long Beach went on a 6-1 run to finish the second set off at 25-20.

Long Beach State led the third set for almost the entire set after taking a 3-2 lead. They were able to finish the third set off at 25-14. 

The Titans will look to shake things off as they come back to Titan Gym tomorrow night for a tilt against the Co-Big West leaders the University of Hawaii. First serve is set for 7:00 PM.
