VB Opens Big West Play With 3-1 Win Over CSU Bakersfield

FULLERTON, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton women's volleyball earned a 3-1 victory over CSU Bakersfield in Titan Gym on Friday night. It was the first match of Big West Conference action for the Titans. Julia Crawford tallied nine kills and 26 digs. Elizabeth Schuster posted a double-double with 45 assists and 22 digs while libero Neena Dimas had a career-high 30 digs.

Fullerton came back to win the first set by a score of 25-22, led by Gabrielle Barcelos with five kills on 10 attempts. Julia Crawford tallied 10 digs with two kills.

In the second set, there were 11 ties and three lead changes but the Titans won by a score of 25-23. Maya Riddlesprigger was a force in the middle as she recorded five kills on eight swings. Nicole Shuhandler and Barcelos each had four kills. 

CSUB was in control throughout and won the third set by a score of 25-17. Crawford's offense started to pick up as she had five kills to lead the team.

The fourth set was another nailbiter that featured 10 ties and six lead changes but the Titans prevailed in the end. Deemas recorded 10 of her 30 digs in that set alone while Lyla Traylor pitched in three of her eight kills.

The Titans are back in Titan Gym on Saturday at 5 p.m. PT against Cal Poly.
