FULLERTON, Calif. - Coming off the 2020 spring semester, Titans Athletics had the best academic semester ever with a cumulative GPA of 3.32. Student-Athletes who are flourishing away from their field of play will continued to be honored through Student Spotlight. This week's honoree is volleyball junior Maya Riddlesprigger.

A natvie of Fresno, Riddlesprigger graduated from Central High School and arrived on campus in Fullerton in the fall of 2018. She boasts a 3.63 GPA and is pursuing a degree in business administration with an emphasis in marketing. She has been on the Dean's List in three of the four semesters she has completed on campus.

Not only does she represent the university as a member of the volleyball team, she is also a member of the Student Advisory Board. She collaborates with other students as they represent the student body to provide thoughtful feedback on student-related initiatives, programming and services in meetings that take place four times a semester. As a whole, they serve as a consulting group to the dean, administrators, faculty and staff. They also act as a liaison between college officials and the student body.

There's more, she is also the Titans Athletics Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) President and one of two representatives for the Titans on the Big West SAAC. As the leader of SAAC, she runs monthly meetings aiming to solicit student-athlete response and generate a student-athlete voice.

With the other universities in the Big West SAAC, she has committed to launch the Diveristy and Inclusion Social Media Campagin though the Big West to bring awareness, education and engagement surroinding the importance of inclusive environments in college sports.

Apart from her work in and around Cal State Fullerton, Riddlesprigger also cultivated a seven week campaign acquiring flyers, promotions, and events to be created resulting in over $30,000 to go towards research for blood cancer. She earned the Community Engagement Award for her work and even collaborated with Giannis Antetokounmpo, her brother-in-law, to construct an auction on Charity Buzz for two tickets and a postgame meet-and-greet for four different games that raised over $13,000.

The honorees are chosen by the Athletics Academics Services staff. For example, a student-athlete that is also tutor or a member of a leadership committee would be things that could could help an athlete garner the recognition. Titans student-athletes remain busy with their sport responsibilities but still find ways to thrive in the classroom as well as impact the community.
