FULLERTON, Calif. - Coming off the 2020 spring semester, Titans Athletics had the best academic semester ever with a cumulative GPA of 3.32. Student-Athletes who are flourishing away from their field of play will continued to be honored through Student Spotlight. Our third honoree is women's volleyball senior Savahna Costello.

A native of Riverside, Costello became a Titan in the fall of 2017 from La Sierra High School. The 2019 Big West Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Costello owns a cumulative GPA of 3.7 as she pursues a degree in mathematics. Within her math program she is a teacher's assistant and is also a scholar in the TMMT (Transitioning Math Majors into Teaching) Program.

She is also a Titan Leader as part of the Titan Leadership Program with the University 115 course. Costello works with the incoming student-athletes in the class on transitioning into the university and the athletic department.

Costello is not only a Team Leader on her own volleyball team but she also coaches a youth team in nearby Yorba Linda.

The honorees are chosen by the Athletics Academics Services staff. For example, a student-athlete that is also tutor or a member of a leadership committee would be things that could could help an athlete garner the recognition. Titans student-athletes remain busy with their sport responsibilities but still find ways to thrive in the classroom as well as impact the community.
