RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton took all the momentum early, but couldn't quite keep it going, as UC Riverside earned a 3-1 (23-25, 25-12, 25-15, 25-23) victory over the Titans, Saturday evening at SRC Arena.
Madeline Schneider led the way with a team-high 11 kills and eight digs, while Jayla Norman followed suite with eight apiece. Meagan Carlson also recorded eight.
Nastassja Bowman led Fullerton with 36 assists, while Savahna Castello took control defensively, leading the squad with 12 digs, while Katie Roux also recorded double-digit digs with 10.
The Titans (4-14, 0-5 Big West) came out with energy early, battling the Highlanders (9-8, 1-4 Big West) point for point in the opening set, eventually squeaking out a 25-23 opening set victory. Fullerton recorded a spectacular .382 attack percentage.
However, UCR took control in the second and third sets, earning 25-12 and 25-15 wins to take a 2-1 advantage. The Titans did all they did to force a fifth and decided set in the fourth, but came up just short after leading most of the way. Fullerton eventually fell in the fourth set, despite recording a .359 attack percentage, while committing just two errors.
Fullerton will return home to take on UC Irvine, Friday at 7 pm PT. It'll be the first of a three-match homestand.
