FULLERTON, Calif.--- For the second straight night, the Titans showed incredible heart to rally from a two set deficit, but unfortunately just couldn't complete the comeback, as Fullerton dropped a tough 3-2 (25-21, 25-23, 24-26, 21-25, 15-11) to Southern Utah, Saturday night at Titan Gym.
For Fullerton (2-4) the loss marks its third five-set defeat of the season and its second in as many days.
Madeline Schneider led the Titans with 21.0 total points, while securing a team-high 20 kills and 21 digs. Cady Francis chipped in with 21 digs, while Katie Roux recorded 15. Savahna Costello was fantastic at the libero spot, as she collected a match-high 40 digs on the night.
Summer Kerins put together her second consecutive productive performance, hitting an efficient .333, while collecting 11 kills and just three errors.
Fullerton kept things close throughout, but dropped back-to-back close sets to open the match, falling 25-21 in the opening set and 25-23 in the second.
However, as they've done all season long in the early going, the Titans battled back. With its back up against the wall, Fullerton launched a furious 10-2 run to finish off the third set in dramatic fashion, securing a 26-24 victory to stay alive.
The Titans sported a match-best .250 attack percentage in the third set.
Fullerton grinded things out one more time in the fourth set. After trailing most of the way, the Titans finally snagged a 19-17 advantage, taking advantage of a Southern Utah red card. Fullerton took control the rest of the way to secure the 25-21 fourth set victory.
Unfortunately the Titans didn't have enough to complete the rally, falling 15-11 in the fifth.
Fullerton now hits the road for the first time this year, as it'll head to Towson for a four-match tournament beginning on Thursday at 4 pm PT vs. host Towson.
