Fullerton, Calif. -- Long Beach State used 14 blocks in a powerful performance at the net and beat Cal State Fullerton in Big West action, 3-1, tonight in the final of three home events housed in Titan Gym for the day.

The win moves Long Beach State to 15-11, 7-5, while the Titans are now 10-15, 3-10 on the season. Set scores were: 21-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-20.

For the second consecutive night, senior outside hitter Bre Moreland notched a double-double, pounding 20 kills while scooping up 19 digs. Holland Crenshaw added 14 kills, a block solo and a pair of block assists, and Alyse Hensley and Faith Rockmore each tallied 13.

But, it was the presence at the net for the 49ers that allowed the team to recover after Cal State Fullerton won the first set. Delainey Aigner-Swesey stuffed a pair of blocks, solo, and partnered with others three more times as both Bre Mackie and Haleigh Hampton had five block assists.

The Titans won the first set largely because of crisp passing that allowed junior setter Julie Consani options and she distributed the ball evenly between outside hitters and the middle. Consani finished with 50 assists and 13 digs. Long Beach State countered by applying more pressure in the serving game and by keeping the Titans off-balance with the blocks.

Also for the second consecutive night, the Titans got solid backrow play from libero Paige Reed who collected 20 digs to lead the defense, and from Abbie Miraldi (18).

Both teams doggedly tracked down plays that seemed to be over and kept rallies alive to the delight of 385 fans.

Fullerton next travels to the central coast to face UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
