Neto Earns AVCA All-Region Honors

AVCA All-Region Teams

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Cal State Fullerton senior Kayla Neto was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association West All-Region team, it was announced today.

Neto, a native of Clarksburg, Calif., was also recently named to the Big West Conference First Team for the fourth consecutive year, marking just the eighth time in the league's history a women's volleyball player has become a four-time honoree.

The all-region honor is also the second for Neto during her four-year career at Fullerton. The 6-foot-2 outside hitter was named to the all-region team in 2009 after earning AVCA All-West Freshman of the Year honors as well.

During 2012, Neto led the Titans averaging 4.33 kills per set (541), a mark that also ranked second in the Big West Conference, trailing only Big West Player of the Year Emily Hartong (4.66 k/s).

In addition, Neto finished the year with 38 service aces (0.30 s/s), a number that ranked third in the league. The 2009 graduate of Christian Brothers High School (Sacramento, Calif.) also averaged 5.04 points per set, a number that ranked second in the league.

Neto departs Fullerton with her name scattered over the record books. She is the only student-athlete in the history of the Cal State Fullerton volleyball program to be named to the West Region team on two occasions, and the only player in program history to be named to the Big West Conference First Team on four occasions.

Neto holds the all-time records at Fullerton for kills (1,628) and points (1,918.5). In addition she ranks in the top-10 of 10 all-time categories including kills per set (3.59; 4th), attack attempts (4,602; 1st), attacking percentage (.211; 7th), service aces (104, T-6th), digs (937; 10th), solo blocks (60; 6th), block assists (253; 5th), total blocks (313; 5th), sets played (454; 2nd) and matches played (122; T-5th).

In 2012, Neto totaled 541 kills, a number that rates third in Fullerton single-season history. She also added 630.5 points, a number that also ranks third.

Neto also finished 2012 with a team-high 21 double-doubles on the season, finishing with double-digit kills in all but two of Fullerton's 31 matches (including the final 22 consecutive contests), and set a new career high with 35 kills at UC Santa Barbara on Oct. 19 -- the fourth-highest single-match total in school history.

All AVCA All-Region award winners will be considered for first, second, or third team All-America status, with the announcement scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 12.
