Fullerton Splits First Day at Classic

FULLERTON, Calif. – In their second game of the Fullerton Classic, the Titans couldn't keep up with San Diego State, finishing the first day of competition 1-1.

The Aztecs, who lost to Santa Clara earlier in the day, defeated CSF 3-1 (25-21, 22-25, 25-17, 25-15) in the night cap, as SDSU (7-3) finished its day 1-1 as well.

The Titan (6-5) offense struggled against San Diego State, posting just a .108 attacking percentage as Bre Moreland led CSF with a match-high 16 kills, followed by Kayla Neto's 13.

San Diego State managed 12.5 blocks against Cal State Fullerton as Emily Harris totaled eight block assists and attacked at a clip of .462.

Summer Nash led the Aztecs with 15 kills, while Raegan Shelton chipped in 11 kills. The pair of Tanna Aljoe and Chloe Mathis guided the Aztecs' offense with 22 assists apiece, while Kristi Jackels finished the match with 13 digs.

 Gabrielle Dewberry completed the night with 18 digs for the Titans. Dewberry, Moreland and Neto each recorded two aces apiece.

Titan Gym will host five games on Saturday as the Fullerton Classic presented by Embassy Suites continues.

Santa Clara 3, San Diego State 2
Santa Clara (8-3) defeated San Diego State (6-3) in the opening match of the Fullerton Classic, 3-2 (19-25, 25-21, 25-22, 23-25, 15-12), as the Broncos were led by Megan Anders' match-high 17 kills. Alyssa Anderson paced the offense with 27 assists and Ali Rambis added 16 digs.

Game 3
Oregon State 3, Santa Clara 1
Oregon State (8-2) found its rhythm after the break and took games three and four to defeat Santa Clara, 3-1 (25-21, 18-25 25-20, 25-19) in the third match of the Fullerton Classic on Friday afternoon at Titan Gym.

The Beavers hit at a clip of .299 led by Laura Schaudt's 14 kills, while Megan McBride directed the offense with 40 assists. The Beavers totaled 17.5 blocks, while Santa Clara's Megan Anders totaled a match-high 20 kills with a .500 attacking percentage.
