Malibu, Claif. - Madi Kingdon led all players with 15 kills and paced the Wildcats of Arizona in a 3-0 sweep of Cal State Fullerton in the first game of the Pepperdine Asics Classic held in the Waves' Firestone Fieldhouse Friday night.

The Titans, who were unable to find a consistent rhythm in the 17-25, 23-25, 22-25 loss, dropped to 2-2 on the young season. The Wildcats improved to 3-1.

Fullerton missed a prime opportunity in the first set, jumping out to a 6-0 lead from the first serve. Arizona went on a 10-4 run to tie the set at 10-10. After trading points to make it 11-11, the Wildcats stepped on the gas and never looked back. Kingdon had six of her 15 kills in the set and Halli Amaro and Rachel Rhoads each added a pair of blocks.

Fullerton came out in set two and looked like they may even things up, extending to a 3-point, 12-9 lead midway through. The Wildcats then scored seven unanswered points that proved too costly. Fullerton managed to tie the game at 16-16 and keep it close through 23-23, but a Kingdon kill and a Bre Moreland attack error put Arizona up 2-0 into the break.

Set three also stayed tight with no one taking more than a two point advantage up through 18-18. Amaro's kill to make it 19-18 gave the Wildcats the lead for good. Moreland had five of her team-leading 12 kills for Fullerton in the third set.

Fullerton's leading hitter, Kayla Neto, didn't have a kill until the sixth point of the second set, and finished with six kills on the night.

The Titans hit just .037 as a team and were out-blocked 8.0-4.0 at the net. Neto and Leah Best led the Titans with two blocks each. Arizona's Amaro and Chanel Brown had four apiece.

Lauren Kissell had five kills in 12 swings (.250) and also added a block for Fullerton.

The Titans will take on the host Waves Saturday afternoon in the 1:30 p.m. match in Malibu.
