Volleball Drop Season Opener, 3-1, to Georgia Tech

 Atlanta, Ga. - Georgia Tech's Bailey Hunter logged a career-high 16 kills and 15 digs and Monique Mead had a solid match posting 11 kills, 13 digs and nine blocks to lead the Yellow Jackets to a 22-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-16 victory over visiting Cal State Fullerton in the nightcap of the 2012 Georgia Tech Courtyard Invitational in O'Keefe Gymnasium Friday night. 

The match was the first of the season for both the Titans (0-1) and the Yellow Jackets (1-0). The Titans are now 0-2 all-time against Georgia Tech, and 18-15 all-time in season openers since 1980.

The big blow on Friday night for the Titans came in the third set. They had leads of 16-11 and 18-13, but were outscored 12-1 over the last 13 exchanges to go down 2-1 out of the break. 

Senior Kayla Neto was the offensive star for Fullerton, picking up 19 kills in 49 swings and added five blocks on the defensive end.  Freshman Holland Crenshaw also added five blocks in her Titan debut.

Georgia Tech's Annie Czarnecki had eight kills and led the Yellow Jackets in attack percentage. The hosts hit .200 as a team while holding the visiting Titans to just a .057 clip.

Four of Georgia Tech's defenders were in double digits in digs with Hunter leading the way. Gabrielle Dewberry was the long Titan in double digits with 16 scoops.

Fullerton will face Southern Methodist (9 a.m.) and Charleston Southern (1:30 p.m.) on Saturday.
