UC Santa Barbara extended its Big West Conference winning streak to four matches Sunday with a 5-2 victory over short-handed Cal State Fullerton at the Robertson Gymnasium Courts on campus.
Fullerton was forced to default at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles due to injury giving Santa Barbara an immediate advantage. However, the Titans came out strong dominating the No. 1 doubles match and giving the Gauchos a run for their money at court No. 2 before falling, 8-6.
In singles, the Gauchos won the first three matches at courts No. 5, No. 4 and No. 2 to clinch the match. Kiersten Meehan played near perfect tennis in her 6-0, 6-0 victory over Katie Nichols and Sofia Novak surrendered only one game in her match against Morgan McIntosh, winning 6-1, 6-0.
Natalia Lozano and Jordan Dockendorf couldn't quite finish off their opponents. Lozano dropped her match to Tiffany Mai 2-6, 6-4, (10-7) and Dockendorf fell short in her match against Monica Rodriguez 2-6, 7-5, (10-7).
UCSB is now 9-3 overall and 4-1 in Big West matches. Fullerton is 3-12, 0-6.
Fullerton hosts Texas State on Wednesday and Colorado State on Friday.
