With the forecast calling for rain all weekend, UC Santa Barbara and Cal State Fullerton switched their Big West Conference women's tennis match from Sunday to Friday. The move paid off for the Gauchos as they registered a 4-2 win.

The Gauchos and Titans played their singles matches first as they anticipated rain and the doubles were never needed.

UCSB logged victories in four of the six singles contests. Freshman Carina Bjornstrom (Espoo, Finland) battled to a three-set victory over Gina Le at No. 1, 6-2, 6-7(2), 7-5.

At No. 2, Gaucho Marta Simic (Belgrade, Serbia) battled with Mai-Ly Tran, but had to retire with a leg injury. Tran won 6-7, 4-1. UCSB's Charlotte Scatliffe dropped a 6-4, 6-7 (9), 6-2 decision at No. 3, but UCSB players won at No. 4, No. 5 and NO. 6, to give the Gauchos the win.

UCSB, which is now 2-1 overall and 1-0 against Big West opponents, is slated to host Loyola Marymount on Saturday in a match beginning at 11:00 a.m. Fullerton fell to 1-6 and 0-2 and is scheduled to play Saturday at Cal Poly.
