Long Beach, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's tennis team concluded their second day of the Long Beach Invitational on Saturday with two teams advancing to the finals in their doubles bracket on Sunday.
Fornuately or unfortunately for the Titans, it will be an all Titan affair in the final match. The pairing of Mariia Nikitash/Camila Garcia defeated Perez/Khaytat (UCI) 6-2 and will go against Zoe Olmos/Natalie Duffy who defeated Solis/Harper (CSUN) 6-3.
The pairing of Kaytlin Taylor and Diana Yanotoskaya fell in their semi-final match against Coetzee/Ho (CSUN) 6-4.
The Titans had four players advance in singles after the first day into the winner's bracket. But all four of them fell in their semi-final matches on Saturday.
In the singles black bracket Zoe Olmos defeated Kiana Oda (Gonzaga) in her first match 6-4, 6-2. But she lost in the semi-finals against Sasha Turchak (CSUN) 6-3, 6-2. Olmos will take on Sarah Medik (LBSU) tomorrow.
Also in the black bracket, Diana Yanotoskaya defeated Emma Moratalla Sanz (CSUN) 6-2, 6-4 in her first match of the day. However she fell to Natasha Puehse (GCU) in the semi-finals 2-6, 5-7. Yanotoskaya will go against Yulia Zhytelna (CSUN) in Sunday's match.
In the consolation side of the black bracket, Natalie Duffy won her first match against Alyssia Fossorier (UCI) 6-1, 0-6, 6-1. She lost in her second match of the day against Anali Kocebar 2-6, 2-6. Duffy will play against Victoria Solis Urdiales of CSUN tomorrow.
Kaytlin Taylor won her first match of the day in the singles gold bracket against Angela Ho in a walkover However, she lost against Tallia Harper (CSUN) in her second match of the day 4-6, 6-2, 4-6. She play Victoria Santibanez of CSUN in Sunday's finale.
In the consolation side of the gold bracket, Camila Garcia lost her match against Sheena Masuda (LBSU) 7-5, 2-6, 3-6. Garcia will play Cydney Yamamoto (UCI) tomorrow.
Megan Tagaloa was defeated by Nour Khaytat (UCI) 0-6, 6-7 (6). Tagaloa will play Peppi Ramstedt (LBSU) tomorrow.
In the singles white bracket, Mariia Nikitash was defeated by Sofia Dermenjyan (CSUN) 1-6,6-4, 7-6 (5).
The Titans return to the Rhodes Tennis Center on Sunday where they look to conclude the tournament with at least one champion in doubles.
