Fullerton, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton Women's Tennis fell 4-3 to San Jose State in a tightly contested match on Friday afternoon at the Fullerton Tennis Courts.
In singles play, Natalie Duffy, Eira Tobrand, Juliette Daries, Mariia Nikitash, YuSeung Suh, and Kaytlin Taylor were in action. In doubles play Duffy and Suh paired up, Garcia and Tobrand teamed up, and Taylor and Daries paired up.
The Titans set the tone early in doubles play. Garcia and Tobrand cruised through their doubles match, didn't drop a single game, and ran out 6-0 winners. Duffy and Suh then clinched the doubles point for the Titans, with 6-3 win on court one.
The Titans had to battle high winds pushing balls in every direction throughout singles play. Daries battled back and forth in her singles match, but fell 6-4, 6-1 on court four. Duffy took her match to a decisive third set. She lost her first set 3-6, battled back with a 6-3 win in set two, but came up short in set three, falling 2-6.
Taylor then earned the second point of the day for the Titans, with a straight-sets win on court six, 7-6(5). 6-3.
Suh dropped her match on court three, but took the first set to a tiebreak, before falling 5-7, and then lost the second set 4-6.
Nikitash followed that up with her second singles win of the week, winning in straight sets 7-5, 6-4 to tie the match at 3-3.
Tobrand then battled and took her match to three sets, but came up just short in a third set tiebreaker, falling 3-6, 6-1, 7-6(5).
Up Next: The Titans are back in action on Feb. 12, when they head to UC Riverside to open conference play.
