Titans Post Solid Day One at CSF Spring Invite

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton Women's Tennis earned three singles win and a doubles win to kick off their spring season on Friday at the Fullerton Tennis Courts.

The Titans had five singles participants compete against athletes from Grand Canyon University and two doubles teams compete against doubles pairings from UC Irvine on day one.

In singles play, Natalie Duffy, Eira Tobrand, Juliette Daries, Mariia Nikitash and Kaytlin Taylor were in action. In doubles play Duffy and Nikitash paired up and Tobrand and Daries teamed up.

Duffy and Nikitash earned a hard-fought win in their doubles match, winning 6-2 over Tsukiji and Fossorier of UC Irvine, while Tobrand and Daries fell in a tightly contested 7-6 (3) contest against Schlatter and Gonzalez-Rico of Irvine.

In singles play Duffy completed a perfect day, winning her match in come-from-behind fashion in three sets 4-6, 7-5, 6-3. Nikitash also finished a strong day one with a singles sweep, 6-3, 6-4 of Autum Prudhomme of GCU. 

Daries went back-and-forth with Santa Strombacha but came up just short in a three set thriller, 6-3, 4-6, 3-6, while Tobrand fell in her match to Fabienne Schmidt 4-6, 3-6. 

Taylor capped off day one of the CSF Spring Invite with a straight-sets sweep, beating Sara Rakim 6-1, 7-5.

Up Next: The Titans are back at home tomorrow, Saturday Jan. 22 for day two of the CSF Spring Invite. Doubles play is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. with singles play at 11 a.m.
