FULLERTON, Calif.—  During an unprecedented year, the women's tennis team was able to prevail and mark another successful year.

This is the program's sixth straight winning season while under the leadership of Head Coach Dianne Matias. Prior to Matias joining the Titans, there had only been three winning seasons in the program dating back to 1989-90.

The Titans made their fourth consecutive Big West Tournament semifinals appearance. Overall, the team went 13-6 and 6-2 in Big West competition.

With a five-game winning streak to cap off the regular season, the Titans found themselves as the No. 2 seed heading into the 2021 Big West Tournament.  This was the second straight year (the 2020 Tournament did not take place) they have been the No. 2 seed. It is just the second time in program history they have been seeded that high at the Big West Tournament.

The Titans faced UC Irvine in the first round (quarterfinals) of the tournament. Having beat the Anteaters twice earlier in the season, the Titans went into the match with confidence. After winning the doubles point and collecting three more wins in singles, the Titans comfortably advanced to the next round. In the semifinals the Titans came up short against Cal Poly and dropped 0-4 to the Mustangs.

During the regular season, Matias reached her 100th win as the head coach of the Titans. She accomplished the milestone win in the first home conference match against UC San Diego on March 6th. She is just the fifth Fullerton women's tennis head coach since 1984.

The freshmen, Natalie Duffy (No. 4) and Juliette Daries (No. 6), made an impact this season. Both finished with a winning record in singles: Duffy 11-5, Daries 12-4. Multiple times the two clinched matches for the Titans in order to capture a win. Both of them finished the season with five-game winning streaks. Duffy was also a key player at the No. 3 doubles spot with YuSeung Suh. The pair wrapped up the season with a 11-4 record.

Jadie Acidera and Camila Garcia also came in clutch at the No. 2 doubles spot. The duo ended the season with a winning record of 10-6. Garcia also stepped up when she was put in the singles lineup. She played a total of seven singles matches and only dropped one.

Eira Tobrand and Misaki Kobayashi earned Big West accolades. As a doubles team they received Second-Team All-Big West honors. Individually, Kobayashi obtained a spot on the Second-Team for singles and Tobrand received Honorable Mention.

The Titans also welcomed Mark Spearman as the Assistant Coach and brought back former #1 singles and doubles player, Genevieve Zeidan as the student assistant.

Dianne Matias finished her eighth year with the Titans tennis program. She has an overall coaching record of 116-75 and 109-60 record with the Titans.

With only two seniors on the team, Taylor Valenzuela and Jadie Acidera, the Titans will return next season with a majority of the 2020 team.

It was an unprecedented year for the Titans. Student-athletes were covid tested on a weekly-basis. All matches were spectator-less up until the last home match of the season. But, with all the obstacles and changes, the team was able to remain resilient and finish another successful season.
