SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. –   The Titans women's tennis team bounced back during Friday's match against Cal Poly to break the Mustangs' 10-0 win streak.

In doubles, it was a close one against the Mustangs. At No.1, Eira Tobrand/Misaki Kobayashi battled it out through a tiebreaker to drop 6-7. Jadie Acidera/Camila Garcia tried to hold onto their match but would lose their grip and fall 5-7 to the Mustangs. At No. 3, Natalie Duffy/ YuSeung Suh also brought it to the Mustangs but their match was left unfinished. The titter totter ended up tipping towards the Mustangs to take the doubles point.

As the Titans headed into singles, the battle continued. Early on, the Titans did not put themselves in the most ideal situation. The Titans went down 0-2 after the first completed match at the No. 3 singles spot (Jadie Acidera). Misaki Kobayashi defeated her opponent in straight sets, (6-4, 6-0), to put the Titans up on the board 1-2.

The match was looking in Cal Poly's favor once they collected their third win of the day at No. 2 singles. Now the Titans down 1-3, they'd have to rely on the bottom half of the lineup to pull off the win. The Titans tied it up (3-3) with the Mustangs after No. 6 Juliette Daries and No. 5 YuSeung Suh both pulled out a win.

All eyes fell on freshman, Natalie Duffy at No. 4 singles. After losing the first set, Duffy took the second set after winning it in a tiebreaker. Heading into the third set Duffy went up 5-1 and was ready to close out the match. But, her opponent would fight her way back into the match to tie it up 6-6 and go into another tiebreaker. Duffy secured the win for the Titans after winning the tiebreaker 7-4. The Titans served the Mustangs their first loss of the season.

"Extremely proud of how the team competed. It's not easy to win a match on the road especially against a team who is having a stellar year and having to deal with the elements and a home crowd. To lose the doubles point and to come back from being down 1-3 in the match with both Natalie and Julia (YuSeung) losing their first sets showed a lot [of] grit. We look to build off this match as we head into the remaining conference matches." -Head Coach, Dianne Matias on Friday's win.

The final score for the Titans was 4-3.
