SANTA BARBARA, Calif. –   The Titans women's tennis team were unable to defeat the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos during Wednesday's match.

In doubles, the Gauchos quickly took the lead on all courts. At No. 2 doubles, Taylor Valenzuela and Jadie Acidera matched up for the first time this season. Unfortunately the duo were unable to pull out a win and were the first to complete their match. No. 3 doubles Natalie Duffy/ YuSeung Suh were down a game throughout their match until they won two games straight to go up 5-4. Natalie Duffy/ YuSeung Suh would then win the entire match at 7-5. The pressure then fell on No. 1 doubles (Eira Tobrand/Misaki Kobayashi) who were down 0-3 but then fought their way back to tie it up at 4-4 and then 5-5. But, after the Gauchos regained the lead at 5-6, the Titans would lose the match and ultimately, the doubles point.

With the loss of the doubles point, the Titans would need to win at least four singles matches to capture the win over the Gauchos. The Titans attempted to gain momentum but would continue to increase the Gauchos' lead. Jadie Acidera was the first to complete a singles match (1-6,1-6), followed by Natalie Duffy at No. 4 singles (1-6, 2-6). At No. 2, Eira Tobrand finished her match (3-6, 3-6) which would secure the win for the Gauchos. 

Three matches continued to play out. YuSeung Suh dropped the first set but fought her way back into the match to win the second set 6-4 and go on to win in a third set tiebreaker. At No. 6 Juliette Daries attempted to make a comeback on her court after losing the first set and wining the second, but would lose in the third set tiebreaker. Misaki Kobayashi had a tight match all of the way through the first and second set. After splitting sets, Kobayashi would lose in the third set tiebreaker, 5-10. 

 The final score for the Titans was 1-6.

Titans will be back at home to face UC Riverside on Saturday, April 3rd at 11:00AM. Spectators are now allowed to attend but must wear a mask and socially distance.
