FULLERTON, Calif. – The Titans came out showing UC Irvine that these were their home courts during Wednesday's non-conference match.
All courts started up in their matches, leading 1-0. As the matches continued, momentum seemed to shift more towards the Anteaters halfway through the matches; but, the Titans maintained their energy and continued to fight.
Court 2, Jadie Acidera and Camila Garcia had a back and forth battle against their opponents. The Anteaters gave them everything to try and break their poise, but the Titans maintained their calm. However, as soon as UC Irvine got the break point at 5-4, they quickly closed out the match.
Down on Court 3 in another tight match, Natalie Duffy and YuSueng Suh, kept giving it their all. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to come out on top, resulting in UC Irvine taking the doubles point.
In Singles, Camila Garcia flipped the switch by rolling through her opponent in straight sets (6-4, 6-2), allowing the Titans to pick up their first point as a team.
On every court you could feel and hear the fight with "Let's go Titans" being yelled throughout the entire day. On court No. 5, Juliette Daries, proved that it wasn't going to be easy to beat the Titans by securing her win in straight sets 6-2, 6-4.
With Titans now tied 2-2, it came down to #1, #2 and #4 singles. Each court had to show their grit as they all headed into the third set. At No. 4, Natalie Duffy made her match as close as possible with finishing off her match in a tiebreaker. She was able to boost the Titans to a 3-2 lead by winning in three sets.
The competition continued to be a close one when Misaki Kobayashi dropped her match in three sets to tie the overall score 3-3.
All eyes were on court No. 2, Eira Tobrand, who comfortably and confidently made her shots to dominate her opponent in the third set. Tobrand maintained her focus to bring her match to an end with a win in the third set, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2.
Today the Titans also welcomed their newest Titan, Mark Spearman, as the Assistant Coach. The Titans are now 2-2 for the pre-conference season.
