LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Women's 2019-20 Tennis season is now underway, and day one of the Beach Tournament is complete.
Jade Acidera and Eira Tobrand were first round Singles winners. Acidera defeated CSUN's Victoria Santibanez in Flight C, 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (with four tiebreakers). Also participating in Flight C, Tobrand dominated Shreya Pavani from UCI in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. Both Acidera and Tobrand will advance in the Flight C Winners bracket.
In other Singles play flights, Alex Kalachova fell to Emma Roenholt of CSUN in Flight B, and UCR's Nicole Hitomi defeated Taylor Valenzuela in straight sets in Flight D.
Both Titan teams were victorious in opening round Doubles: Acidera / Valenzuela will advance in the Winners bracket of Flight B after defeating the UCI squad 6-3. Tobrand / Kalachova knocked off the UCI's Flight A pair before falling in the next round to a very strong Washington State duo.
Day two of the three-day tournament will begin on Saturday, with matches at 9:00 a.m. at the Rhodes Tennis Center on the campus of Long Beach State.
