FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton women's tennis went to battle on Sunday but were faced with a heartbreaking 4-3 loss to UC Santa Barbara.
Fullerton is now 17-5 (5-2) and UC Santa Barbara moves to 9-12 (5-1) for the season.
Sunday was Senior Day and Cal State Fullerton athletic's took time to honor Isabel Donaldson and Danielle Pham for their efforts within the tennis program.
The Titans were down early as the doubles point was won by the Gauchos.
Sarah Nuno and Karla Portalatin were unable to pull through against the tandem of Palina Dubavets/Natalie Da Silveira and lost 6-3.
Genevieve Zeidan and Jadie Acidera were outperformed by the duo of Stephanie Yamada/Lise Sentenac 6-4.
As a result of the Gauchos earning the doubles point, Masako Makiba and Danielle Pham's match was stopped at 6-5.
In singles play, the Titans started off rocky as No.114 Genevieve Zeidan took a loss on court number one. Zeidan lost 6-1, 6-3 to Dubavets.
Portalatin was able to get things going again for the Titans when she defeated Atannason 6-1, 6-4.
Nuno added to the momentum when she gave the lead to the Titans with a 6-4, 6-4 win over De Silveira.
Jadie Acidera found another win for Fullerton when she beat Sentenac 6-2, 6-4. Acidera is now 4-0 on court number six.
The Titans fate took an unfortunate turn for the worse as courts four and five bounced back in favor of Santa Barbara.
Luxizi Meng had to settle her match in three sets but ultimately lost to Lev-Ari 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
Caisey Lee Emery also took her match into three sets but couldn't finish as she lost to Yamada 6-4, 0-6, 6-2.
With the loss, Fullerton falls to the third seed in the Big West Conference.
The Titans look to play in their final regular season match against Long Beach State on Friday at 2:00 p.m. in Long Beach, Calif.
