SAN FRANCISCO – In an all-out sweep, Cal State Fullerton defeated University of San Francisco 4-0 on Saturday afternoon.
The dynamic duo of Karla Portalatin and Sarah Nuno notched another victory for the season as they took down the tandem of Emily Maxfield and Shanna Dos Santos 6-2. Nuno and Portalatin lead the Titans in doubles play with an outstanding 16-3 overall record.
The momentum moved in Fullerton's favor as Genevieve Zeidan and Masako Makiba bested Mya Bui and Margarita Treyes 6-4. The doubles point was secured by the Zeidan/Makiba win and Caisey Lee Emery and Danielle Pham's match was stopped with a score of 4-5 against Anna Sokiran and Alexa Meyer.
With the early lead, Fullerton charged forward in singles play. No. 97 Genevieve Zeidan was on fire on court number two. Zeidan defeated Anna Sokiran 6-2, 6-3. The impressive freshman moves to 18-2 for the season. Zeidan is a stellar 6-0 on court number two with a seven-match win streak.
On court number four, Luixizi Meng put the Titans on top 3-0 with her win over Dos Santos. Meng defeated Dos Santos 6-4, 6-3. Meng is a nice 12-5 for the season.
To secure the Titans victory, Sarah Nuno bested Emily Maxfield 6-4, 6-3. Nuno moves to 13-6 overall for the season. On court number one, Nuno is 4-2.
As Fullerton came out victorious, the following matches were stopped. Karla Portalatin vs. Mya Bui 6-4, 5-4, Caisey Lee Emery vs. Margarita Treyes 6-1, 4-6, Masako Makiba vs. Alexa Meyer 7-6(4), 5-2.
Cal State Fullerton moves to 7-2 (2-0) and is number one in the Big West Conference.
Fullerton plays Santa Clara tomorrow at 10 a.m. PT.
