Fullerton Falls to Loyola Marymount 4-3

LOS ANGELES – In a fierce battle at the LMU Tennis Courts, Cal State Fullerton went head to head against Loyola Marymount, but despite close play across the singles courts, the Titans fell 4-3 on Saturday.

The Lions had the momentum on their side early on in the day as they took the number three court first in doubles play. Danielle Pham and Jadie Acidera dropped the match to Juravliova/Tumosa 2-6. 

On court number one, Karla Portalatin and Sarah Nuno faced off against No.24 tandem V. Miroshnichenko and Eva Marie Voracek. Portalatin and Nuno were met with an unfortunate 4-6 loss. This is the tandem's first loss since facing No.3 Florida in week two. 

As the point was awarded to the Lions, Genevieve Zeidan and Masako Makiba's fought to win their match against Anderson/ Romeka (LMU) 6-4.

The Titans looked strong in singles play as they took down two of the first three courts in their favor. No. 97 Zeidan came back to upset No. 104 Voracek 0-6, 6-3, 6-2. Zeidan has continued to prove her dominance as a Titan and moves to 7-1 in dual action in her first year for Fullerton. 

Karla Portalatin also landed another win for the year as she defeated Anderson 2-6, 6-1, 7-5. 

Sarah Nuno was the first Titan to fall in singles play as she was taken down by No. 22 Miroshnichenko 6-3, 6-1.

As the Titans and Lions tied 2-2, singles play was a battle for both teams. Caisey Lee Emery dominated on court number five as she cruised to victory over Tumosa 6-4, 6-4. Emery has also shown her athleticism on court number five advancing to 6-0 in duals.  

Luxizi Meng went toe to toe against De Lucas before falling 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 to De Lucas. 

The match was tied again, now 3-3, and it was up to court number six to seal the deal. Gaisina ultimately took the point and earned the win for Loyola Marymount as she defeated Makiba 7-5, 4-6, 6-2. 

Cal State Fullerton now sits at 6-2 (2-0) for the season. 

The Titans hit the road next weekend as they travel to San Francisco to take on the University of San Francisco, Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at the Olympic Club.
