Titans’ Ninth Straight Win is New Program Record

FULLERTON, Calif. --- Cal State Fullerton set a new program record with its ninth consecutive victory on Friday as the Titans defeated Eastern Michigan, 6-1, at Titan Tennis Courts.

Fullerton's ninth-straight win to open the season is also the program's longest win streak in team history.

In 2016, the Titans surpassed the previous record winning eight in a row.

Once again Fullerton started today's match by winning the doubles point as Camille De Leon and Alexis Valenzuela won their third straight with a 6-0 victory over Andrea Martinovska and Marie Mayerova at the top of the order.

The sophomore tandem of Sarah Nuno and Karla Portalatin clinched its fourth straight victory as well as the doubles point with a 6-1 win against Ani Gogvadze and Maria Paula Ribero at No. 2 doubles.

In singles action, De Leon played at the top of the lineup and defeated Mayerova, 6-2, 3-6, 12-10, to win her sixth straight.

Valenzuela scored her seventh straight singles victory with a 6-0, 6-0 defeat of Gogvadze at No. 2 singles.

Portalatin, now 7-1 on the season, edged Martinovska, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 3 in the lineup, while Nuno needed three sets to record her seventh straight win against Paula Ribero, 6-1, 1-6, 10-3, at No. 4 in the order.

At No. 6 in the order, junior Danielle Pham won her fifth straight and improved to 7-2 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Alejandra Barcelo Almoyna.

Cal State Fullerton returns to action with two matches next week. Fullerton will travel to UC Irvine for a 1:30 p.m. match on Thursday, before hosting Seton Hall at 11 a.m., Sunday, March 5 at Titan Tennis Courts.

Notes: With the win, Cal State Fullerton extended its winning streak to nine matches, setting a new record for the program…Cal State Fullerton has yet to lose the doubles point in 2017.
