LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton women's tennis team ended its regular season with a 7-0 loss to 66th-ranked Long Beach State at Rhodes Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
The Titans end the regular season with an overall record of 17-5 and a Big West Conference mark of 6-2, both program bests.
With the win, Long Beach State (16-4, 8-0 BWC) clinched its ninth Big West Conference regular season title and the 49ers will have the No. 1 seed at the Big West Championship.
Fullerton is currently third in the Big West standings, trailing UC Santa Barbara (13-7, 6-1 BWC), but despite the Gauchos' result at Cal Poly on Saturday, the Titans are locked into the No. 3 seed at the Big West Championship.
The Titans will play the conference's No. 6 seed in the Big West Tournament quarterfinals at 8 a.m., Thursday, April 28, at Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
Fullerton's No. 3 seed at the tournament is its best in the history of the tournament dating back to 1989.
Cal State Fullerton was swept in singles play against Long Beach State although four of the six matches went to three sets.
In doubles action, the 49ers took the point as LBSU's Julie Gerard and Maeva Razakasoa defeated Masako Makiba and Karla Portalatin, 7-5, to decide the point.
The 37th-ranked doubles tandem of Laura Eales and Hayley Thompson edged Fullerton's 45th-ranked team of Camille De Leon and Alexis Valenzuela, 6-3, but at No. 3 doubles, the Titans evened the doubles score at 1-1 as Sarah Nuno and Danielle Pham defeated Alex Jones and Ebba Unden, 6-3.
