FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton women's tennis team won its third consecutive match with a 6-1 victory over Wyoming on Wednesday afternoon at Titan Tennis Courts.
The Titans (13-2) ended a six-match losing streak against Wyoming (7-8) which dated back to 2000.
Fullerton's 13 total wins in 2016 are the most for the program since the 2004 season as the Titans creep toward matching and eclipsing the program's single-season record of 15 victories in 1988.
For the 12th time this season, Fullerton started singles play with a one-point lead as Fullerton's doubles teams of Camille De Leon and Alexis Valenzuela at No. 1 doubles and Masako Makiba and Karla Portalatin at No. 2 doubles each scored wins.
De Leon and Valenzuela improved to 9-1 with a 6-3 victory over Magdalena Stencel and Nastya Tokareva, while Makiba and Portalatin are now 7-2 following a 6-3 win over Dorottya Jonas and Miranda Talbert.
De Leon moved the Titan lead to 2-0 as she handled Tessa van Der Ploeg 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 in the singles order.
Valenzuela (11-3) gave Fullerton a 3-0 advantage with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Stencel at the top of the order.
Danielle Pham (10-3) won her team-leading sixth-straight singles match at No. 6 in the order and clinched the Fullerton victory as she moved past Talbert 6-2, 6-2.
Portalatin (11-4) was responsible for Fullerton's fifth point with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Jonas.
Sarah Nuno (10-5) won her third straight, defeating Tokareva, 7-6 (2-0), 7-5, at No.2 in the order.
The Titans will return to action next with a 1:30 p.m., contest vs. Nebraska on Tuesday at Titan Tennis Courts, followed by returning to Big West Conference action at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 26.
