FULLERTON, Calif. – For the second time this season, the Cal State Fullerton women's tennis team recorded a sweep in a 7-0 victory over Colorado State (3-7) at Titan Tennis Courts on Tuesday.
The Titans (12-2) have now recorded their most victories since the 2004 squad finished the year with a 13-11 record.
For the 11th time this season, Cal State Fullerton won the doubles point as the team of Sarah Nuno and Danielle Pham won its 10th straight with a 6-1 victory over Maddie Buxton and Caroline Henderson at No. 3 in the order.
The point was clinched when freshmen Masako Makiba and Karla Portalatin defeated Emily Kolbow and Celine Voss 6-3 at No. 2 in the lineup.
In singles action, Alexis Valenzuela swept CSU's No. 1 singles player, Kolbow, 6-0, 6-0, as the junior co-captain improved to 10-3 on the year.
Playing at No. 2 in the lineup, Nuno handled Buxton, 6-0, 6-2 as the rookie is now 9-5 this season.
Portalatin moved past Aina Hernandez Soler, 6-3, 7-6 (1-0) at No. 3 in the order to improve her singles record to 10-4 in 2016.
Camille De Leon, playing at No. 4 singles, scored a point with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Madison Porter.
Masako Makiba won her eighth match of the year with a 6-4, 6-2 defeat of Voss at No. 5 in the singles lineup.
Sophomore Danielle Pham scored the seventh point winning by default at the bottom of the order.
The Titans will play three consecutive home matches, with a 1:30 p.m., contest vs. Wyoming on Wednesday at Titan Tennis Courts. Admission is free of charge.
