RENO, Nev. – Cal State Fullerton's eight-match win streak came to an end as the 67th-ranked Titans suffered a 4-2 loss to Nevada at the Caughlin Club on Friday afternoon in Reno.
For just the second time this season, Fullerton (10-2), lost the doubles point as Nevada's (4-6) No. 1 team of Blaga Delic and Sheila Morales defeated Camille De Leon and Alexis Valenzuela, 6-3, handing the pair its first loss of the spring.
At No. 2 doubles, the Wolf Pack's Claudia Herrero and Adriana Gergelyova edged CSF's Masako Makiba and Karla Portalatin, 6-4.
Trailing 1-0, sophomore Danielle Pham evened the score for the Titans as she scored Fullerton's first point with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Nevada's Sara Korzeniecki at the bottom of the singles order.
The Wolf Pack took the lead back, 2-1, as Herrero was leading Valenzuela after the first set and scored the point when the Titans' co-captain retired in the second set trailing 5-3.
Once again Fullerton fought back to even the score at 2-2 as De Leon improved to 9-3 on the year with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Delic at No. 3 in the order.
But De Leon's point would be Fullerton's last as Gergelyova defeated Portalatin in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3, at No. 4 in the lineup before Morales also needed three sets to move past Sarah Nuno, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1, at No. 2 in the order, to clinch the match-winning point.
The Titans return to action on Saturday in a neutral site match against Montana State in Reno.
