FULLERTON, Calif.  – The Cal State Fullerton women's tennis team won its fifth straight match, defeating visiting Cal State L.A., 6-1, on Wednesday afternoon at Titan Tennis Courts.

With the win, the Titans (7-1) continue the historic start to their season which is the best on record in program history dating back to 1981. CSULA is now 3-3 in 2016.

For the seventh time this season, Fullerton won the doubles point as the Titans swept doubles action.

The team of junior co-captains Camille De Leon and Alexis Valenzuela defeated Nozomi Matsuoka and Iris Raileanu, 6-4, at the top of the order to improve its overall record to 5-0.

At No. 2 doubles, current Big West Conference Athlete of the Week Masako Makiba and fellow freshman Karla Portalatin shut out the Golden Eagles' team of Isabella Lopez and Elizaveta Sokolova, 6-0.

Freshman Sarah Nuno and sophomore Danielle Pham, competing at No. 3 doubles, defeated Pyper Brown and Kayleigh Hall of Cal State L.A., 7-6 (7-3).

In singles action, Valenzuela improved to 6-2 on the year with a three-set victory over Nozomi Matsuoka, 2-6, 6-2, 10-3, at the top of the order.

Nuno, on a five-match win streak, pushed past Elizaveta Sokolova, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.

De Leon picked up her fifth singles win at No. 3 in the lineup with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Kayleigh Hall.

Makiba increased her singles win streak to three matches with a three-set, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, come-from-behind victory over Pyper Brown at No. 5 in the order.

At No. 6 in the lineup, Pham swept Snezana Ivanovic 6-0, 6-0.

The Titans return to action at UC Riverside in Big West Conference play on Saturday to conclude the month of February. Fullerton will host six of its nine matches in March at Titan Tennis Courts.

Notes: The Titans are on a five-match winning streak, the longest for the program since a five-match win streak from Feb. 2-22, 2013.
