DAVIS, Calif.  – Freshman Masako Makiba sealed Cal State Fullerton's 4-3 victory over UC Davis on Saturday afternoon at Marya Welch Tennis Center as the Titans opened Big West Conference play on the road.

With the win, Fullerton's (5-1, 1-0 BWC) four-match win streak remains intact as CSF boasts its longest win streak since 2013.

In addition, the Titans won their Big West Conference opener for the first time since 1995.

For the fifth time this season, Fullerton captured the all-important doubles point as the team of Camille De Leon and Alexis Valenzuela defeated Lani-Rae Green and Kristy Jorgensen, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles.

Clinching the doubles point was sophomore Danielle Pham and freshman Sarah Nuno as the pair defeated UCD's Kamila Kecki and Frederique Sleiffer, 6-1 at the bottom of the order.

The Titans swept doubles play as the freshman pairing of Masako Makiba and Karla Portalatin defeated Tiffany Pham and Alex Huie at No. 2 doubles.

With a 1-0 lead, Nuno put the Titans ahead 2-0 at No. 3 in the order with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Kecki.

Fullerton suffered losses at No. 1 and No. 2 singles as UC Davis (4-5, 1-2 BWC) evened the match, but the Titans pulled ahead 3-2 as Portalatin moved past Sleiffer, 6-1, 7-6 (9-7).

At No. 5 in the lineup, Makiba clinched the win with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Tiffany Pham.

Fullerton will host Cal State L.A. at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Titan Tennis Courts, followed by a road match at UC Riverside on Saturday, Feb. 27.

Notes: Cal State Fullerton won its first Big West Conference opener since a 4-0 victory over San Jose State in 1995…the Titans are on a four-match winning streak, the longest for the program since a five-match win streak from Feb. 2-22, 2013.
