Valenzuela, De Leon and Sandford Named All-Big West

IRVINE, Calif. – Alexis Valenzuela, Camille De Leon and Megan Sandford received Big West Conference Women's Tennis honors, it was announced by the league on Tuesday.

Valenzuela, the Titans No. 1 player for the majority of the year, was named to the Big West All-Conference First Team for the second consecutive season. Last year, the West Covina, Calif., native was the first Titan to be named to the first team in the program's history.

This season, Valenzuela, a sophomore, finished the year with a dual singles record of 8-6 at the top of the lineup. In addition, partnering with freshman Danielle Pham, the doubles team played at the No. 2 spot for the Titans and produced a dual record of 14-8 as well as mark of 6-2 in Big West Conference action.

In two seasons for Cal State Fullerton, Valenzuela has amassed a career record of 23-10 (.697) in dual singles action as well as a mark of 29-16 (.644) in dual doubles play.

A fellow sophomore, Camille De Leon was named Big West Honorable Mention in singles action for the first time in her career. De Leon completed the year with a dual singles record of 12-9 as she finished 2015 with a record of 3-3 at the top of the lineup and a record of 9-6 at No. 2. In addition, De Leon completed Big West dual singles competition at 5-3.

For the second straight year, the La Mirada, Calif., native received Big West Conference Second Team doubles honors as De Leon and senior Megan Sandford earned the accolade.

The team of De Leon and Sandford managed an 11-10 dual record at the No. 1 spot as well as a winning record of 5-3 in league play.

In two seasons, De Leon has a record of 25-19 (.568) in dual singles play as well as a mark of 21-21 (.500) in dual doubles action.

For the second straight year at least three Titans received all-league honors.

The Titans finished the 2015 season with an overall record of 10-12 as well as a 2-6 mark in Big West action. Fullerton, the No. 7 seed at the Big West Championships, was eliminated in the quarterfinals by 54th-ranked and No. 2 seeded UC Irvine, 4-0 on Friday.

Cindy Nguyen (Hawai'i) was named the Big West Player of the Year and Viktoria Malova (Hawai'i) was named Big West Freshman of the Year. Gary Victor (CSUN) was voted Big West Coach of the Year.
