Tennis Opens Big West Play Thursday

FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton women's tennis team returns to action at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, hosting 39th-ranked Long Beach State at the Titan Courts.

The match will serve as the Big West opener for Fullerton (1-3), while the 49ers enter Thursday's affair with a 1-0 record after defeating UC Riverside, 7-0, last week. Cal State Fullerton then travels to Cal State Northridge on Saturday for a 1 p.m. start.

Fullerton News & Notes

Cal State Fullerton junior Morgan McIntosh won a pair of singles and doubles matches last week to claim Big West Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week accolades in a vote by the league's coaches on Wednesday.

McIntosh is now 2-2 in both singles and doubles on the year. This is her first Big West Tennis Athlete of the Week honor, and the first for the Titans since Tiffany Mai earned the honor on March 16, 2011.

Last Time Out
Cal State Fullerton recorded its first win of the season by dealing UMKC a 6-1 defeat at Titan Courts last Sunday afternoon. Fullerton won five individual matches and captured the doubles point in Sunday's victory as senior Tiffany Mai led the way by defeating Laura Bouet, 6-3, 6-4, at the top of the singles bracket, and also partnering with Monica Rodriguez for a win at No. 1 in doubles play.

Morgan McIntosh won her second match of the week with a 6-0, 7-6 victory over Eva Dalvai at No. 2 in the singles lineup, and also partnered with Kalika Slevcove to record an 8-1 win in doubles play.

Opponents

Thursday's match against Long Beach State will be the Big West season opener for the Titans. Last week, the 39th-ranked 49ers opened Big West conference play with a commanding 7-0 victory over UC Riverside. The 49ers have won six Big West titles in the last seven years, and LBSU holds a 36-15 overall record against the Titans.

Last week, Cal State Northridge also played UMKC, and defeated the Kangaroos, 5-2, in the Matadors' 2013 season opener. Northridge won the doubles point by sweeping the first two contests, while winning singles matches at the No. 2, No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 spots in the lineup.
