FULL NFCA RELEASE

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced 381 student-athletes from 158 programs have received 2022 NFCA Division I All-Region accolades on Thursday. Cal State Fullerton softball had one student-athlete named to the All-West Region team in the ace of the Fullerton pitching staff, Myka Sutherlin.

The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second and third-team selections. NFCA member head coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all student-athletes now become eligible for the 2023 NFCA Division I All-America squads.

Myka Sutherlin was named to the NFCA All-West Region Second Team.  Earlier this week she was also the 6th Titan to be named the Big West Softball Pitcher of the Year.

Sutherlin finished the regular season with a 19-9 overall record and 13-4 record in Big West Play.  Sutherlin had a 1.30 ERA in 188.1 innings pitched which was good for 16th in the nation. Sutherlin has 227 strikeouts that is tied for 10th in the nation. Sutherlin had 17 complete games and 9 shutouts. Suthlin had a 0.96 ERA in conference only stats.  In her 17 starts in Big West play, she tossed 11 complete games and combined for 6 shutouts.  She had 138 punchouts in conference play.

Suthlin was named the Big West Pitcher of the Week seven times this season, falling one short of the conference record.  She did however set a new conference record by winning the award five weeks in a row after winning 10 games in a row against CSUN, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, Cal Poly, and Hawaii.  She tossed the 58th no-hitter in school history and the second no-hitter of her career against CSUN.  Myka also picked up wins over Ole Miss, shutout #24 Oregon and Oregon State at the Mary Nutter, closed the win over #8 Tennessee in Mexico and tossed two games with over 8 innings pitched against Michigan and Minnesota.

Sutherlin was one of four Big West representatives to be named to the All-West Region.  Jada Cecil (UCSD), Maya Nakamura (Hawaii), and Jessica Clements (Cal Poly) were the other representatives named to the All-West Region third team.  This marked the first season since 2015 that the Titans did not have at least two players earn All-West Region honors.
