Titans Drop Season Opener at No. 2 UCLA

Box Score

WESTWOOD, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's softball lost their season opener against No. 2 UCLA, falling 3-0 at Easton Stadium on Thursday night.

The Titans fall to 6-5 in season openers under Head Coach Kelly Ford's tenure.

The Titans got a chance to roll out their top three pitchers in the game against UCLA and they pitched admirably in the losing effort.  Raci Miranda got the start and went 3.1 innings allowing just three hits, two hit batsmen, zero walks, and striking out one.

Haley Rainey tossed 1.1 innings in relief of Miranda.  She allowed two unearned runs on one walk, two hits, and striking out one. Sutherlin tossed the final 1.1 frames allowing one run on two hits on zero walks.

Megan Faraimo tossed a complete game for the Bruins and struck out 13.  She allowed just three Titans to reach the base on a walk, hit by pitch, and a base hit by Megan Delgadillo in the sixth inning to break up the no-hitter.

The Titans got their first two baserunners in the fourth inning after a one out walk by Neil and Becerra was hit by a pitch.  However, Neil was thrown out trying to steal third and the Bruins got out of the jam.

In the bottom of the fourth, UCLA loaded the bases with one out in the inning.  Haley Rainey entered in relief to make her Titan debut and pitched out of the jam with a big strikeout and inducing a groundout to end the frame.

Rainey should've had another clean inning of relief in the 5th inning however the Bruins were able to capitalize on an infield error.  The Bruins had back-to-back hits with two outs to plate the first two runs of the game.

UCLA would add one more run in the sixth inning after Bailey Wallace made a valiant diving effort to snag a ball hit to shallow left field.

The Titans return to Westwood tomorrow for one more road game before returning to Anderson Family Field on Saturday.  The Titans take on Utah State tomorrow at Easton Stadium.  First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
