Softball Garners Nine Big West Honors

BIG WEST RELEASE

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Big West Conference announced the yearly softball awards on Wednesday and Cal State Fullerton collected 9 honors including Field Player of the Year and Coach of the Year.

Megan Delgadillo is the 15th Titan to be named Big West Field Player of the Year as she had the best season in her Titan career.  It is the third straight year Fullerton has claimed the award as Kelsi Whitmore won the award in 2021 and Ari Williams won it in 2019.  There was no awards for the 2020 season.

Delgadillo finished the season with a slash line of .396/.457/.433 overall and in conference she slashed .444/.500/.500.  She led the league with 74 hits which is tied for 9th in the country.  She also led the conference with 55 runs scored.

Delgadillo also set two new all-time career records on the basepaths this season.  She had 47 steals which tied her with Dionne Anderson for most ever by a Big West Athlete in a single season. She is also tied for 4th in the nation with that total. She shattered the individual single season record of stolen bases of 35 set by Brooke Clemetson in 2018.  She also became the all-time Titans career leader in steals with 94 after picking up two steals in the final game of the regular season against Long Beach.  

She was named the Big West Player of the Week on February 28th after her play at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.

It is also her first time being named to the All-Big West First Team. She was named to the All-Big West Second Team in 2021 and a member of the All-Freshman Team in 2021.  

Kelly Ford was named the Coach of the Year for the fifth time as the leader of the Titans.  Ford won the award four consecutive years from 2016-2019.   She has continued to record 30-plus win seasons in eight of the last nine seasons and 12-plus conference wins in every season as the manager of the Titans.  She also got the TItans RPI to the #28 which was the highest mark in her career after the Titans performance at the Mary Nutter Classic and the Judi Garman Classic.  

Jessi Alcala was named a First-Team All-Big West honoree, after being the starting catcher for the first time in her Titan career. 

The sophomore catcher had the hottest bat for the Titans in the final three months of the season. Alcala slashed .380/.452/.447 overall and was second in OPS with a 1.017.  In conference only stats, Alcala slashed .455/.506/.766 and led the league with an OPS of 1.272, which was 200 points higher than the next person.  Alcala had the highest batting average, was second in on-base percentage, and led the league in slugging percentage. 

Alcala had 54 hits, 35 RBIs, 24 runs, and 6 home runs.  She was also perfect behind the plate with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage with 289 putouts in 315 chances. She threw out 11 base stealers.

Peyton Toto was named a member of the All-Big West First Team for the first time in her career.  Toto was named a Big-West Honorable Mention and a member of the All-Freshman team last season. 

Toto slashed .367/.431/.523 overall for the season. In conference only stats, Toto slashed .354/.429/.494 for the season. Toto had 33 RBIs, 24 runs, and 4 home runs for the season. Toto had a .959 fielding percentage with 47 putouts in 146 chances.  She only had six errors for the season.

After her strong play in the opening weekend of the season, Peyton Toto was the first recipient of the Big West Field Player of the Week honor for the 2022 season.

Daisy Munoz was named a member of the All-Big West Second Team for the second time in her career.  Munoz was a member of the first-team in 2021 and a member of the second-team and all-freshman team in 2019.  

Munoz slashed .335/.396/.587 overall for the season and .287/.350/.563 in conference play.  Munoz had 60 hits for the season and led the league with 15 doubles.  She also had 10 HRs and 26 runs. She led the league overall with 48 RBIs.

Playing at first base, Munoz had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage for the season.  She had 387 putouts in 393 chances along with 6 assists.

Munoz was named Big West Field Player of the Week twice this season on March 14th and on May 16th.  Her walk-off HR and go-ahead HR in the first two games against Long Beach helped lead the Titans to their Big West Conference Championship.  

Hannah Becerra was named a member of the All-Big West Second team for the first time in her career.  She was the Freshman Field Player of the Year, Home Queen,  All-First Team, and All-Freshman team last season. 

Becerra slashed .310/.468/.542 for the season overall and .261/.458/.319 in conference play. She was third in the conference with an overall 1.010 OPS. After her amazing freshman season, Becerra was pitched around a ton this season and led the league with 43 walks.  She had 48 runs, 36 RBIs, 8 home runs, and also had 8 steals.  Becerrra was second in the league with 48 runs scored just behind Delgadillo.

Antuanett Dean was an All-Big West Honorable mention for her first season as a Titan.  The New Mexico State transfer slashed .322/.339/.380 overall for the season and .321/.333/.429 during conference play. Dean recorded 39 hits and scored 21 runs and was second in the league with 20 stolen bases.

Dean had a .981 fielding percentage and had 50 putouts in 53 chances.  She also had two assists.

Raci Miranda was named to the All-Freshman team.  The freshman right-handed pitcher posted a record of 11-6 and one save with 32 appearances and 21 starts in the circle.  Miranda had a 2.93 ERA in 112.1 innings pitched and struck out 87 batters.

Miranda came on strong during conference play where she was 8-4 with 3 complete games.  She was 4th in the conference with a 1.93 ERA She out-dueled the pitcher of the year and fellow freshman Jada Cecil in a 8-inning complete game against UCSD.

Miranda was named the Big West Pitcher of the Week and Freshman of the Week on April 25th, 2022.
