Munoz named Big West Player of the Week

IRVINE, Calif. - The Big West Conference announced the final Player of the Week honors of the 2022 softball season on Monday. Junior first baseman Daisy Munoz was named the Big West Field Player of the Week.  Munoz, the captain of the softball, led the team to a title clinching series win over Long Beach after both her late inning home runs proved to be game-winners. 

Daisy batted .300 for the weekend against Long Beach but had the two biggest hits of the season in the first two games of the series.  She finished the weekend with 2 runs scored and 4 RBIs off two home runs.  

In the first game of the series, with the Titans trailing 6-5 in the bottom of the seventh inning.  Daisy Munoz hit a walk-off three run bomb to give the Titans a 8-6 win.  

In the second game of the series, Munoz hit a go-ahead solo homerun in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie to make it a 2-1 game for the Titans.  They ultimately prevailed in the next inning to win the 2022 Big West Championship.

This is the third time that Daisy has received this honor as she was also named the Big West Field Player of the Week on March 14th and once last season.  

This is the ninth honor for the Titans this season as Peyton Toto was named the Field Player of the Week in the first week. Megan Delgadilo and Myka Sutherlin were named Field Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week in the third week. Daisy Munoz was named the Field Player of the Week in the fifth week.  Myka Sutherlin was named the Pitcher of the Week in the sixth and seventh week.  Raci Miranda was the Pitcher of the Week and the Freshman of the Week in the eleventh week of the season.  

The 2022 Big West Champion Titans are heading to their 30th NCAA Regional in Program History this weekend as they travel to Tempe, Arizona to take part in a regional hosted by Arizona State University.
