The Cal State Fullerton Titans softball team will travel to the Tempe Regional hosted by the #8 national seed Arizona State University Sun Devils for their first postseason appearance in three seasons as they take part in the 30th NCAA Regionals in program history.
As the No. 4 seed in the four-team Regional, the Titans will take on No. 1 seed and host Arizona State on Friday at 7:30 pm PT. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+. The Regional's No. 2 seed, LSU, will face the No. 3 seed San Diego State in the first game of the day with the game scheduled at 5:00 pm PT.
The host Sun Devils (39-9) earned the No. 8 National Seed in the 2022 NCAA Tournament after earning the automatic bid and finishing as the PAC-12 Champions. The Tempe Regional is paired with the Evanston Regional hosted by Northwestern University, which features Northwestern, No. 2 seed Notre Dame, No. 3 seed McNeese, and No. 4 seed Oakland.
It will be the second ever time the Titans played a regional in Tempe, Ariz. In 2009, the Titans traveled to Tempe Arizona. Coincidentally, the other teams in the regional that year were also ASU, San Diego State, and LSU. The Titans lost the first game to LSU 3-2, won the game against SDSU 8-2, before falling to ASU 7-0. In 2019, the last time the Titans were in the regionals at UCLA, they lost against Missouri 7-4 and against Weber State 7-3.
Louisiana State University (34-21) earned an at-large bid to make the tournament after finishing 6th in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The Tigers were eliminated in the first round of the SEC Tournament against Mississippi State after going 13-11 in conference play.
The Aztecs earned an automatic bid after winning the Mountain West title. The Aztecs are 37-14 overall and went 20-4 in conference play. The Titans played San Diego State earlier this season at the Mary Nutter Classic where they defeated them 7-3.
Cal State Fullerton's all-time NCAA postseason record is 63-56 (.521). They are 47-46 (.505) in the NCAA Regionals in program history.
