GASTONIA, N.C. - Former Cal State Fullerton softball player Kelsie Whitmore made some more history today as she started for the Staten Island Ferryhawks in their game against the Gastonia Honey Hunters in the Atlantic League.

Whitmore previously made her debut for the team on April 21st as a pinch runner.

She became the first woman to start a game in the Atlantic League and in a league connected to Major League Baseball.

Whitmore played left field and batted ninth for the Ferryhawks.  She struck out in her first at-bat, was hit by a pitch, and flied out in her final at-bat.

Whitmore is expected to be a two-way player for Staten Island, but is still working with pitching coach Nelson Figueroa before she makes her pitching debut
