Titans Drop Two to Long Beach; Prepare for Winner-Take-All Game Saturday

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton (38-14, 21-2) dropped two games Friday afternoon to Big West rival Long Beach State (28-9, 21-2). The Titans lost game one 3-2 and game two 8-1. 

Fullerton looks to bounce back Saturday afternoon as the two teams meet for a winner-take-all conference showdown at 1:00 p.m. PT. 

Game One
Fullerton looked to secure the Big West Championship in game one of the doubleheader but came up just short after Long Beach scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Titans fell 3-2 for their first Big West Conference loss of the season after rattling off and impressive 21 consecutive conference victories. 

Hannah Becerra gave the Titans the lead on a two-run home run to center field in the top of the fourth inning. Becerra leads the team with 14 home runs and 47 RBI this season. 

Sophie Frost picked up just her fourth loss of the season (20-4) after giving up three earned runs on six hits in six innings pitched. Frost struck out five while walking four. Kellie White earned the win for Long Beach (14-6), pitching seven innings and giving up two earned runs on four hits while striking out eight and walking three. 

Game Two
Just like the first game of the afternoon, the Titans got on the board first, this time on a productive infield out by KK Humphreys to score Remington Ross

However, Long Beach came back to score eight unanswered runs. Long Beach scored five runs in the fifth inning and three in the sixth. 

Dani Martinez drew the loss for Fullerton after giving up five earned runs on eight hits in five innings of work. Kellie White earned her second win of the day, pitching a complete game while giving up one earned run on three hits.
