FULLERTON, Calif. - Kelsie Whitmore's RBI double in the bottom of the seventh propelled Cal State Fullerton softball to a 4-3 win over the CSUN Matadors on Friday night. The Titans, riding a nine-game winning streak, moved to 22-11 overall and 7-0 in Big West play. Games two and three of the three-game series are set for Saturday with the doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. PT. Both games can be streamed live on BigWest.TV.

It seemed like game of the series would be a continuation of the previous series at UC Riverside where the Titans scored 10+ in all 3 games. A Fullerton team hadn't score 10+ runs in three consecutive games since Feb. 2-3, 2001. Hannah Becerra smashed her seventh home run of the season, a two-run shot, to bring home Whitmore and put Fullerton on top in the bottom of the first. The Titans then tacked on an unearned run to lead 3-0.

Senior pitcher Sophie Frost had another impressive outing to earn the win as she moved to 11-3 on the year. Frost's only hiccup came in the third inning when she allowed a three-run homer which tied the game. Her line for her seventh complete game of the season was 7.0 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 9 K.

Fullerton had some chances prior to the seventh inning as it left five runners stranded over the course of the game. The Titans had runners on second and third with one out in the sixth but couldn't bring a run home.

Heading into the seventh the Titans had their 9-1-2 hitters due up. Evelyn Sablan led off with a double down the left field line, Megan Delgadillo was hit by a pitch and then Whitmore hit what appeared to be a home run but somehow was not. The ball came back into play after hitting off the fence but no matter, Sablan scored to end the game and secure the win for the Titans.
