Titans Head to Davis for Pivotal Series with Aggies

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton (30-15, 10-2 Big West) heads north to UC Davis (35-8, 9-3 Big West) in a battle of the top two teams. The Titans sit one game ahead of the Aggies in the Big West standings. 

Since conference play started, Fullerton is leading the conference in almost every offensive category while Davis is leading in almost every pitching category.

As a team in conference play, the Titans lead the Big West in average (.315), slugging percentage (.497), runs (63), hits (99), RBI (59), triples (3), home runs (12), total bases (156), sacrifices (11), and stolen bases (14). In regards to the pitching, their 2.28 ERA and .236 opponent average rank second behind Davis. Defensively, Fullerton sits comfortably at the top with a .979 overall fielding percentage, a mark that ranks fourth in the NCAA.

The Titans have been led by junior Kelsie Whitmore in conference play as she leads the team with a .481 average, .741 slugging percentage, and a .548 on-base percentage through 12 games. The right fielder is coming off her second Big West Field Player of the Week award this season. In the circle, it has been the Dani Martinez show. The freshman leads the conference with a .161 opponent average, ranks second with a 1.10 ERA, and ranks third with 37 strikeouts in 44.2 innings. She is coming off her second career Pitcher of the Week honor.

On the other side, the story for the Aggies has been their pitching which has led the conference all season long in almost every category. In Big West action, they have a team ERA of 0.86 and an opponent average of .189 to go along with 79 strikeouts. On the offensive side, they are middle of the pack with a .269 average, .367 slugging percentage, and a .345 on-base percentage.

Individually, Davis is headlined by sophomore pitcher Brooke Yanez who has the fourth best ERA in the nation at a 0.89 mark. She also ranks eighth with 9.7 strikeouts per seven. Marisa Given leads the offense with a .486 average in conference play which leads the Big West. She also leads the conference with eight doubles and 29 total bases.

The Titans and Aggies will play a doubleheader to start the series on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m. and close out the series on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
