FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton softball is set to host their final tournament of the regular season as the Easton Invitational takes place at Anderson Family Field this weekend.
The tournament will feature Big West foe CSUN, DePaul, Grand Canyon, Nebraska, No. 16/18 Ohio State, and the defending champion No. 5/5 Oklahoma Sooners. There will be 16 games total with 11 of them taking place in the main stadium of Anderson Family Field. For the full schedule, click HERE.
The Titans are coming off a rough midweek double-header as they suffered a pair of losses on Tuesday to Fairfield University and Columbia University. Against Fairfield, it was a 4-2 loss as Sophie Frost threw a CG, but the offense couldn't give her the support needed while the offense was non-existent only coming up with one hit against Columbia.
Fullerton will play open the tournament with a Friday night double-header against DePaul at 5:30 p.m. and a rematch against Ohio State at 8:00 p.m. They'll play another double-header on Saturday facing off against Grand Canyon at 1:00 p.m. and Nebraska at 3:30 p.m. The Titans close out the weekend with a contest against Oklahoma at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.
The Titan offense continues to be led by Brooke Clemetson in the leadoff spot and Deshea Hill in the three-spot. Clemetson lost her 13-game on-base streak but has already bounced back reaching in the two games since. She currently sits at a .362 average while sporting a team-high .482 on-base percentage. The left-handed slapper also ranks in the top 10 in the NCAA with 20 stolen bases on the season. Hill is fresh off her first career Big West Field Player of the Week award after recording multi-hit performances in all five games last week. While her seven-game hit streak was snapped, she is still hitting a blistering .403 on the season and slugging .542 as she leads the team with two home runs and is tied for the team-lead with 14 RBI.
In the circle, Sophie Frost has broken out as the dominant pitcher for the Titan pitching staff. In her last five starts, she is 4-1 with five complete games (two shutouts) and has only surrendered three earned runs. Freshman Taylor Dockins continues to be a workhorse as well leading the team with 60 innings, but a few rough games have caused her ERA to rise a bit as she now sits at a 3.27 mark.
