FULLERTON, Calif. – The Titans (2-1) had their bats come to life in what turned into an offensive duel against Pitt (3-1) on Saturday night to end day two of the Titan Classic.
The Panthers wasted no time getting the offense going as they plated their first run in the top of the first. Fullerton answered back right away though thanks to a sac fly from Zoe Richard. The Titans claimed the lead in the second thanks to a huge two-out two-RBI single from Ari Williams.
Unfortunately, Pitt responded in a big way. A leadoff home run from Zeremenko started what would become a four-run third inning for the Panthers. Three batters later, with two runners on, Hershman connected for a two-RBI double and Pitt reclaimed the lead. An RBI single from McGaffic would plate another run before the inning ended.
The Titans never gave up though, as Bryanna Ybarra drove in her first of three runs to give Fullerton a run in the third. A big shutout inning from Taylor Dockins out of the 'pen gave CSF a big momentum shift and they rode it. Some well-executed small ball (and some defensive mistakes by Pitt) led to a pair of runs and a bases loaded opportunity for Ybarra and she delivered. With a base knock up the middle, two more Titans would come into score and Fullerton opened it up to a four-run lead.
McGaffic would answer back with a solo home run in the top half of the fifth, but the Titan offense was just too hot. A Richard single and a Shianne Brannan sac fly would give the Titans another two-run inning and made it a 10-5 ballgame.
Pitt would pick up another run in the top half of the sixth and threaten in the seventh, but Dockins shut it down to give Fullerton the 10-7 victory.
