FULLERTON, Calif. - Zoe Richard belted her first career home run in the bottom of the 10th inning to propel the Titans over CSUN 5-3.
Pitcher Kelsey Kessler earned her 18th win by striking out nine, and only allowing three runs, two earned in 10 innings of work. Daphne Pofek took her eighth loss by allowing five runs, four earned, on five hits.
The Titans took the lead in the bottom of the first inning. Samantha Vandiver reached on an error from the short stop and then advanced to second from a passed ball. Ariana Williams was next at-bat and doubled in Vandiver to take the early lead. With Zoe Richard at the plate, Williams stole third, then stole home to extend the Titans lead 2-0.
The Matadors scored their first run in top of the second inning with an RBI single, then homered in the fourth to tie the game 2-2.
For six more innings, the scoreless battle continued. In the top of the 10th inning, the Matadors scored from an RBI double to take the lead.
Delynn Rippy started the momentum for the Titans in the bottom of the 10th with a base hit. Then Lexi Gonzalez got on base with a walk. With two outs, Zoe Richard came to the plate and smashed her first home run for the walk-off 5-2 win.
The Titans will play again tomorrow against CSUN in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. at the Anderson Family Field. The game will be featured on ESPN3.
