Titans Sweep Conference Rival Long Beach State

LONG BEACH, Calif. - On Sunday afternoon, Big West conference leaders Cal State Fullerton beat Long Beach State 1-0 to complete the series sweep of their rival.  

Kelsey Kessler (17-6) allowed only two hits to the Beach, completing her second shutout of the weekend. Cielo Meza (4-2) took the loss, allowing one run on four hits.

Kylie Padilla led the team with two hits in her three at-bats, Sydney Colenzo and Arianna Burns each contributed with a hit of their own.  

The Titans battled the Beach for six innings with neither team able to score a run.

In the top of the seventh with two outs, Arianna Burns was the first to get on base with a walk. Kylie Padilla singled to left and advanced Burns to second. Emily Randall was next at the dish, but was hit by the pitch which loaded the bases. Irieanna Siofele came in as a pinch hitter and drew a walk, giving the Titans the lead 1-0.

Kelsey Kessler held Long Beach State in the bottom of the seventh inning and the Titans took home the win.

Cal State Fullerton will play again on Friday, May 5 against Northridge at 6 p.m. at the Anderson Family Field.
